Fifth Sunday of Easter ~ Service of the Word

ALLELUIA THE LORD IS RISEN! THE LORD IS RISEN INDEED, ALLELUIA!

Welcome to our Worship for the Fifth Sunday of Easter, May 2, 2021.

ALL ARE WELCOME HERE!

The Readings:

Acts 8:26-40; Psalm 22:25-31; 1 John 4:7-21; John 15:1-8

In today’s story from the Acts, the impact of the Easter faith reaches remote Ethiopia, represented by the God-fearing minister of Queen Candace. In many ways this incident illustrates the expectation of the responsorial psalm that all nations would eventually turn to God and worship God. Today’s portion of the First Letter of John is dominated by the theme of mutual love among those who follow Jesus. The organic relationship between God, Christ, and the faithful is metaphorically represented in the Gospel story, where Jesus speaks about the vine and branches.

Questions for Reflection:

What is your deepest desire? Jesus says that “whatever you wish…it will be done for you” (John 15:7). Spend time in these next few days asking yourself at evermore profound levels what you most devoutly wish for in this life and in the age to come. Then prayerfully ask and speak to God about it.
