Welcome to our Worship Celebration for the Twenty-Fourth Sunday after Pentecost (All Saints Day), Sunday, November 7, 2021 (Service of Holy Baptism)
ALL ARE WELCOME HERE!
This morning we welcomed little Noah into the family of God through the sacrament of Baptism.
Readings for All Saints Day: Revelation 21:1-6a; Psalm 24; John 11:32-44
Summary of the Readings: On All Saints’ Day, we remember those who have preceded us in the life of faith. We recall their noble lives as examples of courage and fidelity, and we celebrate the heavenly hope to which they aspired. In doing so, we find ourselves linked with them as sharers of a common hope and destiny. In the passage from Revelation, we hear of a new vision, “a new heaven and a new earth.” This vision has captured the imagination of saints in every century. They have been drawn to it and motivated by it, even as we are. Psalm 24 offers the assurance that the faithful will ascend to the heavenly realm of God and will forever have a place in God’s presence. The gospel story from John tells of Jesus raising Lazarus and brings to the fore themes of resurrection and eternal life.
Questions for Reflection and At Home Prayers: Tears flow through the passages of scripture that we hear on All Saints’ Day. A New Testament visionary promises the faithful that God “will wipe every tear from their eyes” (Rev. 21:4); even Jesus weeps at the tomb of his dear friend Lazarus (John 11:35). What do saints have to do with tears? Does faithfulness demand suffering? Does it require a certain sort of compassion for the pain of this world?
