Our readings for today are:
Exodus 3:1-15; Psalm 105: 1-6, 23-26; Romans 12:9-21; Matthew 16:21-28
The Old Testament story from Exodus tells of Moses’ commission to return to Egypt and lead the Hebrews out of bondage, liberate them from oppression, and lead them to the land of promise.
The psalm relates to Israel’s coming to Egypt and God’s call to Moses and Aaron.
In Paul’s Letter to the Church in Rome, he is appealing to his listeners to practice a way of life that is commensurate with the will and grace of God and that manifests a life of the Spirit in Christian community.
In the Gospel story from Matthew, Jesus teaches that following him involves shaping our lives according to the pattern of his ministry, including suffering and being willing to die on a cross.
