Third Sunday after Pentecost ~ Service of the Word

Welcome to our Worship for the Third Sunday after Pentecost, June 13, 2021.

ALL ARE WELCOME HERE!

The Readings:

Ezekiel 17:22-24; Psalm 92:1-4, 11-14; 2 Corinthians 5:6-17; Mark 4:26-34

In the story from Ezekiel we hear the messianic allegory of the cedar, with the beginning and concluding portions of Psalm 92, which praises God’s fidelity and likens the righteous to a flourishing tree in creation. There are clear thematic connections between Ezekiel and the Gospel story, which tells two parables of growth: the seed growing secretly and the mustard seed – the smallest of seeds. A note of confidence is sounded in the second Letter to the ancient church in Corinth, as Paul opens the veil of his apostolic self-understanding.

Questions for Reflection:

Paul teaches the Corinthian Community that, “if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see everything has become new!” (2 Cor. 5:17). As you have lived into your life of faith, being in Christ, what old things are no more? What new things have been created in you?
