Sixteenth Sunday after Pentecost

Welcome to Worship for this Sixteenth Sunday after Pentecost, September 20th, 2020. This was our first in-person worship since March 8th, when the Pandemic closed our building. We are happy you have joined us, whether you were here in person or continue to join us virtually, YOU ARE WELCOME HERE!Our readings for today are: Exodus 16:2-15; Psalm 105:1-6, 37-45; Philippians 1:21-30; Matthew 20:1-16In the final form of Israel’s early history, the theme of disobedience and murmuring in the wilderness plays a significant role. This week’s story from the Old Testament provides one of the first examples of this motif. Psalm 105 initially praises the wonderful works of God and finally recounts God’s deliverance of Israel from Egypt. Our portion of Paul’s letter to the ancient church in Philippi includes Paul’s memorable confession that “living is Christ.” The Gospel story continues the teachings of Jesus with the parable of the labourers in the vineyard, who receive the same wage for different amounts of work. We hear the workers’ understandable protest of inequity and Jesus’ censure of them for questioning the master’s right to determine wages and for being oblivious to his generosity in making it possible for them to work in the first place. The hymns used today, from Common Praise, are:How Lovely Is Thy Dwelling Place – 498We Walk by Faith and Not by Sight – 244The Voice of God Goes Out – 627 (Tune: Woodlands)Please feel free to share the link for this Worship Service with anyone who may want to worship with us, or with anyone who may be seeking a spiritual home.+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Acknowledgments and Thanks for today’s service:Officiant & Preacher: Rev.
