Welcome to Worship for this Seventeenth Sunday after Pentecost, September 27th, 2020.
We are happy you have joined us, whether you were here in person or continue to join us virtually, YOU ARE WELCOME HERE!
Our readings for today are: Ezekiel 18:1-4, 25-32; Psalm 25:1-9; Philippians 2:1-13; Matthew 21:23-32
The Old Testament story from Ezekiel expounds the theme of individual responsibility, thereby challenging Israel to take responsibility for their resistance and misdeeds before the Lord. The sentiments of the psalm selection illustrate what Ezekiel calls for: acknowledging individual guilt and responsibility while praising God for being good and upright. The theme of obedience receives its classic statement when Paul quotes an early Christian hymn centrally focused on Christ’s obedience. The gospel story tells of Jesus teaching about doing the will of God. Here we have the parable of the two sons, one who said, “I will,” but doesn’t; and the other who said, “I won’t,” but does.
