Welcome to our Worship for the Second Sunday after Pentecost, June 6, 2021.
ALL ARE WELCOME HERE!
The Readings:
Genesis 3:8-15; Psalm 130; 2 Corinthians 4:13-5:1; Mark 3:20-35
In the ancient story for Genesis God confronts Adam and Eve in the garden and condemns the serpent to a crawling existence. Psalm 130 is a personal lament that acknowledges the pervasiveness of human iniquity. The Gospel story has Jesus’ opponents accusing him of being in league with Beelzebul and the demonic ordered. Paired with the story from Genesis the Gospel story serves as a useful reminder that personified evil is always present to resist God’s purposes. The Paul’s second letter to the ancient Church in Corinth, Paul affirms faith in God who raises the dead, and expresses confidence that life as we know it here, with all its afflictions and limitations, will eventually give way to an eternal form of life and existence.
Questions for Reflection:
As we age, we can see how our physical bodies do indeed suffer the wear and tear of life (“our outer nature in wasting away,” as Paul puts it in his Second Letter to the Corinthians (4:16). Yet Paul says it is possible for our “inner nature” to be renewed every day. In your life, what contributed to your renewal? How are you being prepared “for an eternal weight of glory” (1 Cor. 4:16-18)?
