Fifth Sunday in Lent ~ Service of the Word

Welcome to our Worship for the Fifth Sunday in Lent, March 21, 2021.

ARE WELCOME HERE!

This Week’s Readings:

Jeremiah 31:31-34; Psalm 51:1-12; Hebrews 5:5-10; John 12:20-33

Today’s First Testament passage tells the unqualified announcement of salvation. It contains the only explicit reference to the Second Testament, that is, the new covenant. As we approach the end of Lent, a season of penitence and preparation, Jeremiah anticipates a particular aspect of the good new of Easter – that God will transform human hearts. Psalm 51, one of the most famous laments, poignantly links penitence, confession, and a plea for moral renewal. Jesus’ passion is highlighted in the Letter to the Hebrews, which teaches that wholeness in body, mind, heart and spirit happens on the other side of suffering. An ominous note is sounded in the Gospel story, which tells of Jesus’ impending death on a brutal Roman cross.

Questions for Reflection:

God is at work offering forgiveness, showing mercy, and giving knowledge of life, death and salvation. Where is God enacting that new life within or around you? What in your life must die so that you may flourish? What must fall away so that you can rise again in Christ?

Please feel free to share the link to this worship service with anyone you feel may want to worship with us, or who may be seeking a spiritual home.
