Eighteenth Sunday after Pentecost

We are happy you have joined us, whether you were here in person or continue to join us virtually, YOU ARE WELCOME HERE!Our readings for today are: Isaiah 5:1-7; Psalm 80:7-14; Philippians 3:4b-14; Matthew 21:33-46The famous Old Testament passage from Isaiah sings the song of the unfruitful vineyard. It invites us to see that God’s transcendent power works amidst the fragility of human existence. Imperfection is the crucible within which the work of God is carried out. Psalm 80 is a community lament composed to be sung when the ancient people of Israel suffered humiliation at the hands of a foreign enemy. It is a request for revival, renewal and restoration. In his letter to the ancient church in Philippi Paul stresses the unrealized dimension of the Christian calling, urging the people to pursue the heavenly calling of God in Christ. The Gospel story is of Jesus teaching the parable of the vineyard in which tenants mistreat the servants of the householder.
