The Interior
Sudbury Window

Lobby

The Sudbury Window depicts the creation of Sudbury and the resulting industries and life. The left of the window depicts the meteor that slammed into the earth millions of years ago that scientists believe actually created the "Sudbury basin". From that explosion, we have the three resultant industries. The mining industry is depicted by the chimney stacks in the centre panel of the window. The forest industry is depicted by the stained glass trees on the right side of the window. The rail industry is depicted by tracks crisscrossing and arching over the top of the window. The local lakes within the city boundaries are depicted, and three circular glass prisms depict the three local institutes of higher learning, Laurentian University, Cambrian College and College Boreal. The Aboriginal community is also depicted by two symbols in the window.

The Windows

The Epiphany Window

Narthex Nativity
The "traditional" depiction of the Magi, from the old church prior to the fire in 1987 are "situated in the church's narthex, between the lobby and the church.
Epiphany

St. Matthew 2:1-12 The window depicts the Holy Family but also "4" magi", not the traditional "3" as the Bible story does not mention how many kings from the east there were!

The four magi are depicted as heading "away" from the Holy Family, to show that they have visited the Holy Child, presented their gifts, but have been told to go out and tell the world what they have seen. The gifts are sitting at the feet of Mary & Joseph. Also, in this window, different from traditional windows, is that it is Joseph who is holding the Christ Child, not Mary. Also, Jesus is depicted as a toddler, not a baby, because the Bible says that it took the Magi two years to find the child. Also, at Joseph's feet the child's cradle, with the carpentar's tools sitting near it, depicting that it was made by Joseph, who was a carpenter.

The Lectern

The Lectern was badly damanged in the fire (1987) but has been beautifully repaired. There is a humourous anecdote that, following the fire the sex of the eagle was discovered. He is a male, because after the fire when he had fallen through the burned out floor, he was discovered downstairs in the men's room!

Pentecost

The Penetcost Window

The coming of the Holy Spirit - Acts 2:1-15
Traditionally whenever people see a depiction of the pentecost experience they assume that it was only men in that crowd. The Bible does not say that, so this window depicts 2 women in the group.

Baptism

The Baptism Window

St. Philip baptizes the Ethiopian eunich - Acts 8:26-40
Many churches depict Jesus and the children as their baptism window, as Jesus said "Let the children come to me". However that is not specifically about baptism. This window was chosen because it does speak of baptism and also because the Epiphany has a large African community in her membership.

Incarnation Banners

Incarnation Banners

The three banners tell the story of the birth of Jesus. The left one is the Magi Banner, depicting the traditional three Kings, bringing their gifts to the Christ child. The centre banner is the Incarnation banner, depicting the birth of Jeus. The right banner is the Shepherd's banner, depicting the angelic announcement of the Birth of the Saviour to the shepherds.

The Magi Banner was given to the parish by the Reverend Anne & Dr. Colin Germond, as a thank offering for the years of friendship and support they received before Anne was ordained and left to pastor her own church. The two other banners were given in loving memory of the parents of the members Tom & Susan Moland.
